Don’t go out to dine in a local restaurant on Monday, January 29, 2018. Why??? Two dozen of the best chefs in the mid-Michigan area will be competing here at Zehnder’s for cash and bragging rights. The local chapter of the American Culinary Federation (the professional organization of cooks, chefs, bakers and pastry chefs) hosts this annual event which raises funds for the “after school dinner program” of the Saginaw East Side Soup Kitchen, providing take out dinners to over 400 inner city Saginaw kids every day.
Our hot food competition is just like something you’d see on the Food Channel. Professional chefs all dressed in their best kitchen whites standing beside theme decorated tables, presenting samples of their original recipes to an eager crowd of foodies. Plus, we always have four “Grand Buffet” tables where the food is prepared and served by local area high school culinary art students.
The theme for 2018 is SWEET HOME CHICAGO – “a culinary salute to the windy city”. Competing chefs can chose between one of three protein choices:
BEEF – top rounds of beef or beef brisket
PORK – boneless pork butts or spare ribs
GOURMET HOT DOGS with a SIDE DISH
Then it’s time for the chefs to come up with an original, exciting and delicious recipe! Best of all- you get to taste the final result!
All paid guests get the opportunity to compare their palate against those of the judges and vote for the “People’s Choice Award”. Live blues music is part of the atmosphere – presented by the Blues Mobile. Tickets are $30 and available in Zehnder’s Guest Services Office. Call (800) 863-7999, ext. 450 for more information.
